200 YTT FAQ

Yoga Alliance and Certification
What if I am already a Yoga Teacher registered with Yoga Alliance?

If you are already a Yoga Alliance Registered Teacher, then you may use this course as continuing education. Moreover, the resource materials we give you are above and beyond what is given to an in-house trainee. This makes this course also ideal for those who have already completed their 200-hour YTT elsewhere.

Yoga Alliance Registered teachers who are already RYT200 can enroll in this course for continuing education at a reduced rate. We are pleased to provide you with lifetime access to all materials and a continuing education certificate from Yoga Alliance. (No need to complete homework, report submissions, video submissions, and final exam writing. Personal mentoring sessions are not included in this package.

Will I get the same certificate as if I had attended the course in person?

As per Yoga Alliance’s current exceptional permission, you will get the same certificate as if you attended it in person.

How can I certify with Yoga Alliance?

The certification you will get from this course is the Yoga Alliance 200-hour YTT Certificate. After you have completed all our requirements, you will be given your certificate through email and can now proceed to complete your registration with Yoga Alliance. (It will not mention “online” on the certificate, and it is the same validity as a course that is “in person”.)

What are the conditions for getting the Certification?

To graduate and receive your Yoga Alliance-accredited teaching certificate, you must complete the following requirements:

  • 100% completion of all course modules (including Module 0)
  • Attend at least 3 live Group Zoom Calls and watch all Zoom Call recordings with your assigned teacher
  • Complete all quizzes on the platform
  • Submit all mandatory homework by the group deadline (including written class plans and video recordings)
  • Attend or watch the recordings of the online workshop (9 sessions, each 2 hours long)
  • Pass both the final written and practical exams
  • Submit a final essay
  • Complete the course completion form and submit your feedback
What are the conditions of using Zoom calls?

You can attend Zoom calls while your group is active. Once the group’s access period has ended, any further questions can only be addressed through private lessons with the teacher.

Will I be able to teach after the course?

Yes, you will be ready to teach after completing the course, if you choose to do so. At House of Om, our programs are carefully designed to meet students where they are, often starting from common modern-day goals like physical fitness, stress relief, or detoxification. While these goals may be the initial motivation, our curriculum goes far beyond that. We aim to expand each student’s understanding of yoga as a holistic practice that supports body, mind, and spirit.

Our training equips you not only with the practical skills needed to teach yoga safely and effectively, but also with the philosophical foundation to offer deeper guidance. We recognize that the modern yoga landscape can sometimes prioritize quick physical results over authenticity. That’s why we emphasize both the external and internal aspects of yoga, so that our graduates are prepared to share a more complete and meaningful experience with their students.

While some yoga practitioners choose to study for years with senior teachers in traditional systems like Iyengar or Ashtanga, the majority of people today come to yoga with more immediate, body-centered intentions. We train our teachers to skillfully meet these students and gently guide them toward a broader awareness of yoga’s full potential.

In today’s world, where many are dealing with stress, disconnection, and health challenges, the need for compassionate, well-trained yoga teachers is greater than ever. Our mission is to help you become one of those teachers, offering safe, clear, and impactful guidance to those who need it.

Do I have more than one attempt at the exams? How much does it cost to retake exams?

For the written exam, you have unlimited attempts at no additional cost.

For the final practical exam, you are allowed two attempts. Your performance will be carefully evaluated by your mentor teacher. If you do not pass on your first try, you will receive detailed feedback outlining the specific areas that need improvement. You will then have the opportunity to retake the exam.

If you do not pass the second attempt, you will need to be reassigned to a new study group to continue your training. Please note that this may involve an additional fee. For more information on the cost, please contact our student support team.

When will we receive the certificate of completion and an email from Yoga Alliance?

To receive your certificate, you must have fully completed the course, which includes:

  • Attending or watching all Zoom calls with your assigned teacher
  • Submitting all mandatory homework (written class plans and video recordings)
  • Successfully passing the four-part written exam
  • Writing and submitting your final essay
  • Submitting your final practical exam and receiving positive feedback

Once all of the above is completed, please fill out the Course Completion Form. Within 3–5 days, we will review your progress and contact you to confirm if everything is in order.

Once approved, you can proceed to register with Yoga Alliance using the step-by-step guidelines provided in the course. From the time of registration to receiving your Yoga Teacher ID via email, the process typically takes less than 2–3 weeks.

Yoga Teacher Training Online
When does the course start?

You can begin exploring the platform materials as soon as you gain access (immediately after enrollment).

How do I know who my teachers are and which group I’ll be part of?

Once you’re enrolled, you’ll receive a notification confirming your study group assignment along with the name of your assigned teacher. Your group will be chosen based on your time zone and preferred Zoom call schedule (weekday or weekend), so you’ll be placed where it’s most convenient for you. Inside your study group on the platform, you’ll see all members listed, including your teacher and fellow students, with their roles indicated.

Can I take an extra one-to-one call with the teachers?

In addition to the scheduled calls, we do provide private sessions with our expert teachers as an additional support. Whether you might need some extra guidance with your Asana postures, or you would like to deepen your knowledge about Pranayama techniques, anatomy, or any other topic, feel free to reach out to us by email at online@houseofom.com

How long do I have to complete the course?

One of the great advantages of our online course is flexibility—you can progress at your own pace.

If you follow the Zoom call classes and meet your study group deadlines, you can complete the certification within approximately 4 months.

For students assigned to a study group, your teacher will review your homework and provide feedback within one month after the last Zoom call of your group.

This means the total timeframe for group participation and homework review is about 4 months. There is no strict deadline to submit your final exam video, so you can submit it even after these 4 months if needed.

Once the study group’s deadline passes, the group will be closed, and no further homework corrections will be provided. However, you can continue working through the course material on the platform and submit your final exam at any time before the end of 2025.

If you haven’t been able to keep up with the calls, submit homework, or complete the course within your group’s timeframe, you will need to be reassigned to a new study group. This ensures you meet Yoga Alliance’s contact hour requirements. Reassigning to a new study group involves an additional fee of $90. This helps us maintain commitment and quality within each group.

How does the Online Teacher Training work?

Step 1: Get Started
Begin by familiarizing yourself with our Home Page. Complete your profile and student information, and print your Self-Contract / Home practice log.

  • To update your profile: go to Profile → Edit → fill in your details and cover page.
  • Completing your student data is mandatory, as it helps us assign you to the right group and teacher.
  • For each question in your profile, you can choose who can see your answers: the public, course members, your connections, or just yourself.

Step 2: Start Your Learning Journey
Head to Module 1 and begin your studies. Your progress will be tracked and visible on a progress bar under the Modules list.

Step 3: Joining a Study Group

  • When prompted, select your intention:
    • “As soon as possible” to join the next available group (typically a 2–3 week wait).
    • “Do not want to start yet,” if you prefer to delay; just inform student support when you’re ready to join.
  • We assign study groups based on your time zone and preferred Zoom call days (weekdays or weekends).
  • You’ll receive an email and notification inviting you to join your group for personalized support from your teacher and peers.
  • Once in your group, introduce yourself to your teacher and fellow students!

Step 4: Course Schedule and Deadlines

  • The course includes six live Zoom calls scheduled over about 4 months: one initial call, then calls after completing Modules 4, 10, 13, 17, and 19.
  • All calls are recorded and available to watch later if you can’t attend live (mandatory to attend at least 3 in live)
  • Your teacher will review your homework and provide feedback. Homework must be submitted by the group deadline, which is one month after the final Zoom call—about 4 months total.
  • There is no strict deadline for submitting your final exam video; you can submit it anytime before the end of 2025.
  • After the group deadline, the study group closes, and no further homework corrections are given. However, you can continue working on course materials and submit your final exam afterward.

Step 5: If You Need More Time

  • If you fall behind—missing calls or homework, or needing more time to finish—we may suggest you join a new study group to comply with Yoga Alliance’s contact hour requirements.
  • Reassignment to a new group requires a $90 fee, which helps ensure commitment and quality for all students.

Step 6: Final Exam

  • The final exam has three parts: practical, written, and essay.
  • Practical exam: Record yourself teaching a 60-minute class following a standard structure (introduction, centering, pranayama, warmup, sun salutations, asana sequence, Shavasana, and closing).
  • Written exam: Available in Module 20 as a timed quiz with around 200 questions. You need at least 50% to pass.
  • Essay: Choose from suggested topics and submit an essay. Good essays may be published on our blog with full credit to you.

Step 7: After Graduation

  • Once you graduate, you’ll get access to valuable bonus materials to continue your learning and growth. These will be available on your main course page.
  • Stay connected with the House of Om community by following us on Instagram: @houseofom.bali
Will I be able to understand proper alignments and positioning while having no teacher physically present next to me?

Absolutely. Our online teacher training is designed to offer a rich and effective learning experience that rivals in-person training. Through live video sessions with your assigned mentor, you’ll receive personalized guidance and feedback tailored to your progress. By reviewing your submitted videos and assignments closely, your mentor will provide detailed corrections and clear explanations to ensure you develop a strong understanding of proper alignment and posture. This approach prepares you thoroughly for the final exam and for teaching confidently in the future.

How many homework assignments do I have to submit?

Homework is a vital part of your learning journey. It helps you develop and refine your teaching skills in alignment with Yoga Alliance requirements, such as posture alignment, clear cueing, voice projection, body visibility on camera, and the ability to guide students safely and effectively.

There are two types of homework throughout the course:

  • Self-assessed assignments are encouraged to help you track your progress.
  • Mandatory assignments that must be submitted to your mentor teacher. These are essential for preparing you for the final exam and receiving personalized feedback and corrections.

Mandatory homework must be submitted from the following modules:

  • Module 2
  • Module 8
  • Module 13 (parts 1A & 2A)
  • Module 17
  • Module 18 (parts 1A & 2A)

These assignments include both video submissions (approximately 3 hours total) and written assignments such as full class plans. For example, you might be asked to:

  • Record yourself teaching a 30-minute Vinyasa class.
  • Write a 60-minute class plan using specific sequencing principles.

All mandatory homework must be submitted before the group deadline, one month after your last Zoom call.

When can I start the modules? Do I need to wait to be assigned to a study group?

You can begin exploring the course modules as soon as you receive access—there’s no need to wait! The material is designed for self-paced learning, so you’re welcome to start studying right away.

However, Zoom calls and personalized feedback on your assignments will begin only after you’ve been assigned to a study group and a mentor teacher. This matching process usually takes about 2 to 3 weeks after enrollment, depending on your time zone and preferred schedule.

Can I mix and match the modules?

Once you have gained access to the modules, they are yours to use. You do not need to wait to start learning; however, the Zoom calls and assignment reviews will start only after you are assigned a teacher at the beginning of a new month.

Are the Zoom calls one-to-one or group-based? How do you schedule them?

The regular Zoom calls are group-based and form an essential part of the learning journey. However, if you feel the need for more personalized support, you can request a one-on-one session with your teacher—please note that an additional fee applies for this option.

Group calls are typically scheduled every two to three weeks. We encourage you to complete specific modules before each call (Modules 4, 10, 13, 17, and 19), as these sessions are designed to reinforce key topics, review course material, and provide space to ask questions.

Your assigned teacher will offer several dates and time options for each call. The final schedule is determined based on the group vote and will follow the availability of the majority of group members.

What does a full day of the course look like?

The course is structured into 20 modules, each representing a full day of training from our in-person program in Bali.
In addition, there are two dedicated self-reflection modules, which include guided prompts to help you integrate and reflect on the material covered so far.

Each module is titled according to the day’s main theme or highlight. While the exact content may vary, the general structure of each module includes:

  • Pranayama (learning and practice): 30 minutes
  • Yoga Asana (morning and afternoon practices): 2 hours
  • Theory classes (History, Philosophy, Anatomy, Physiology, etc.): 2 hours
  • Teaching Methodology practice: 1 hour
  • Mantra learning and chanting: 15 minutes
  • Meditation (learning and practice): 30 minutes
  • Yoga Nidra: 30 minutes
  • Quizzes: 30 minutes
  • Additional learning materials: 30 minutes
Will my level of English affect my homework submission assessment?

The teachers will be grading you based on a variety of criteria, among which are instruction, adjustment, and engagement. Currently, we mainly cater to English-speaking practitioners; thus, if your level of English is not sufficient to at least get an idea of your teaching competency, it will affect your assessment, or, in case you don’t speak English at all, make it impossible to assess you. We try to accommodate non-English speakers on a case-by-case basis, finding teachers who can speak the same language and assigning students to them. It may, however, mean that you will be placed in a group with a different time zone or intended completion time.

Will the level of my written English affect the final exams?

No, not at all. The final written exam consists of approximately 90% multiple-choice questions, so minimal writing is required.

How much time a day do I have to spend to achieve the certification?

This course is a certified 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training recognized by Yoga Alliance. To complete the certification, you can choose a study pace that best suits your lifestyle:

  • 1–2 months: Approx. 25 hours per week
  • 3–4 months: Approx. 15 hours per week
  • More than 4 months: Flexible time commitment

Please note that the training includes six Zoom group calls, typically scheduled every 2–3 weeks. This means a minimum of 3 months is usually required to complete the group sessions.

One of the great advantages of this online training is its flexibility. If you follow the suggested pace and stay on track with your group’s schedule, you can complete the certification in about 4 months. However, you’re also welcome to take more time and join a new group if needed—this allows you to move at your rhythm while still meeting the course requirements.

I intend to finish the course within 2 months, but will it be possible to extend it in case I am not able to?

The course includes comprehensive platform material you can study at your own pace, along with six scheduled Zoom calls with your study group and mentor teacher, held every two to three weeks. To qualify for the final exam and fulfill Yoga Alliance’s contact hour requirements, you need to attend at least three of these live sessions and watch all six.

If you can’t join a live Zoom call, don’t worry—you’ll have access to the recordings in your group’s discussion forum, so you can catch up anytime. This flexibility lets you extend your study timeline if needed while continuing to make steady progress. However, please note that you need to attend at least 3 out of 6 calls to fulfill the contact hours requirements set by Yoga Alliance.

Once you begin participating in a study group, you’ll have approximately four months in total—up to one month after the final Zoom call—to submit all required assignments.

How well does my asana practice have to be?

We warmly welcome students who already have a strong asana practice, but we understand that a 200-hour course is meant to be a foundational journey in yoga. You don’t need to be able to do advanced poses like headstands or full wheel to join. What matters most is your genuine passion for yoga and your commitment to deepening your practice and knowledge. This course is designed to help you grow, both personally and as a future teacher, regardless of your current skill level.

Can I know more about the training?

Our training is designed to be fully flexible, allowing for 100% self-study under the guidance and supervision of House of Om qualified teachers. Throughout the course, your homework, assignments, and final exam will be carefully reviewed, and you’ll receive constructive feedback to support your growth.

To support your learning journey, we offer:

  • Numerous quizzes to reinforce your understanding and highlight key concepts
  • Homework and assignments are reviewed by qualified teachers to ensure your practice is on the right track, with personalized feedback
  • Study groups are formed based on your time zone and preferred schedule (weekday or weekend)

  • Private one-on-one classes are available on request for an additional fee
Who studies with me and why?

Our courses are designed for everyone, regardless of your prior experience with yoga or meditation. Whether you are a complete beginner eager to embark on a journey of self-discovery and spiritual growth or an experienced practitioner looking to deepen your understanding and elevate your practice, this course is tailored to meet your needs.

We welcome students of all ages—from teenagers to seniors—and all body types, embracing a “you are good enough” philosophy. Our diverse community reflects the belief that yoga is accessible to everyone.

Many of our graduates have reported transformative experiences, gaining confidence, clarity, and a renewed sense of purpose as a result of their training. This course is not just about mastering yoga techniques, but also about inspiring positive personal growth and a new outlook on your potential.

How much emphasis is given to teaching methodology and Practice?

We firmly believe that theory is just the foundation of yoga, as Guruji Pattabhi Jois famously said, “99% practice, 1% theory.” That’s why our courses prioritize hands-on learning and active participation.

Our classes are intentionally kept small, with no more than 20 students, to ensure personalized attention and meaningful interaction. You’ll have ample opportunities to practice teaching, supported by constructive feedback from both your peers and instructors.

This includes the assessment of various homework assignments designed to help you build confidence and refine your skills, guiding you to become a capable and effective yoga teacher and to successfully complete your final exam.

What kind of yoga do we teach?

We deliver a multi-style approach to yoga asana, which includes understanding and techniques from Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Vinyasa, and Vinyasa Flow. We emphasize internal awareness as well as good alignment practices. We ensure you are given a well-rounded view of yoga asana. In this course, you will learn how to create your own sequences by applying the sequencing theories that we will teach you. We will also give you several pre-designed sequences that you will learn to practice and teach to others. There is also a strong emphasis on subtle energy practices, and a lot of time is spent on pranayama and meditation. We strongly believe in authenticity and the power of your journey and inspiration in creating transformative experiences for others.
