    Another question 🙈

I am “new-ish” to pranayama and mantras (yoga has been so fat a very much physical practice for me, and to change that I am here). I am learning on pranayama and mantra chanting but my big Q is how to pick the right one (both mantra and pranayama) for the time in life I might be going through. Also: for how long I do de mantra/pranayama.

Again thank you very much for sharing your experience! 🤍

Hi Andrea, it’s great to see your commitment, it helps mine as well.
My experience has been quite the opposite, I’ve meditated, focused, breathed much more than I’ve practised asanas. The simple fact that I meditate regularly facilitates answers and tips during the rest of the day or the following days, too. With the practise I’ve realized that to listen to myself means to see the dots connecting in front of me in magical ways by feeling them in connection to my life in this body. In the same way mantras, types of practises and durations have been flowing as needed. This means that I find the tools along the way, just by putting intentions and practising my union (yoga), trying and learning by error or either by being whispered to. I practise buddhism as well, some mantras come from that, others from induhism, others are prayers or motivational words that I repeat to myself as mantras, with intention, feeling them along the day, keeping them in my thoughts.
I’m not sure I’m answering your question, but I hope some information helps. If you have further questions I’m happy to chat, dm me.
    Namaste, bless your light!

Elisa’s answer really resonated with how i feel now about mantras specially, but at the begining I was quite lost on how to “choose” them.

With pranayama what worked the most for me best, specially at the begining of entering a deep practice of yoga (beyond asanas), was to learn about the benefits of the techniques and practice one at a time to get to feel the effects myself, and also take notes of them in my yoga journal. I really liked how Samten recommended this technique in the pranayama and meditations videos through the course, and it has been very useful.

Once i had practiced for some time I could really feel which pranayama was more adecuate for each moment. Now I just follow my intuition in my practice.

With the mantras, kind of the same. I would find a mantra, some in the videos here, in classes, and also listening to indian mantras on Spotify and then feel the connection to them. If I felt something special I would research it and then practice only that one for a while.

I believe for me the key is to really connect to the feeling and repeated practice.

Looking forward to read more tips and experiences on this fascinating topic.

Thank you for bringing it up 🙂

    Wishing you a beautiful day!
