General
What kind of yoga do we teach?
We deliver a multi-style approach to yoga asana, which includes understanding and techniques from Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Vinyasa, and Vinyasa Flow. We emphasize internal awareness as well as good alignment practices. We ensure you are given a well-rounded view of yoga asana. In this course, you will learn how to create your own sequences by applying the sequencing theories that we will teach you. We will also give you several pre-designed sequences that you will learn to practice and teach to others. There is also a strong emphasis on subtle energy practices, and a lot of time is spent on pranayama and meditation. We strongly believe in authenticity and the power of your individual journey and inspiration in creating transformative experiences for others.
How much emphasis is given on teaching methodology and Practice?
We believe that theory is only the starting point of yoga (as Guruji Pattabhi Jois famously put it, 99% practice, 1% theory) and ensure that the courses we run are as interactive and practical as possible. None of our courses has more than 20 students. We ensure that there is plenty of opportunity for practice teaching, including 2 practical exams with peer and tutor feedback to help you develop as a teacher.
Will I be able to teach after the course?
House of Om yoga school programs are designed to reach people from their initial expectations, but still educate and expand their awareness of yoga and its benefits. All graduates are ready to teach if they wish to, and we believe that although yoga is expanding, the need for well-trained teachers is still very high. With all the problems faced by the modern world, we believe this work is critical and that there are so many people out there who need help and safe, effective guidance into yoga.
A small proportion of yoga students will commit to decades of study with a senior teacher (such as an Iyengar or Ashtanga practice) or come with a strong interest in meditation and subtle yoga.
However, in the current environment, people come for very physical reasons: body conditioning, detoxification, to lose weight and burn calories; all relating to their bodies and with an ‘instant results’ mentality. The yoga experience in the Modern World is criticized for being inauthentic.

What is our approach and philosophy?
Our attitude is honest, open, generous, non-invasive, and compassionate. We understand that yoga is both a long and colorful process in the path of life. Our philosophy is that House of Om instructors teach with soul and inject personal insight and experience into their classes.
We also know the importance of excellent communicators and understand and respect different beliefs and points of view. Most importantly, we aim to ensure that Yoga Teachers teach with understanding, knowing the science behind the methods of why yoga works and how. We do not tie graduates down to one point of view but empower our trainees with understanding and encourage them to find their own yoga style and practice – to be the best version of themselves.
Course Progression
Will my level of English affect my homework submission assessment?
The teachers will be grading you based on a variety of criteria, among which are instruction, adjustment, and engagement. Currently, we mainly cater to English-speaking practitioners; thus, if your level of English is not sufficient to at least get an idea of your teaching competency, it will affect your assessment, or, in case you don’t speak English at all, make it impossible to assess you. We try to accommodate the non-English speakers on a case-by-case basis, finding teachers who can speak the same language and assigning students to them. It may, however, mean that you will be placed in a group with a different time zone or intended completion time.
Will the level of my written English affect the final exams?
No, the final written exam is 90% multiple choice, so there is no need to write much. To pass, you only need 50%.
Will I be able to understand proper alignments and positioning while having no teacher physically present next to me?
We carefully sifted through online teaching approaches and chose one that offers the most heart-to-heart experience, and requires little technical preparation. And settled for one that is the best in our opinion. We are offering Zoom calls, during which an assigned mentor will be guiding you..
